Confessions of a Saveaholic

Alright girls, I know you have all seen Confessions of a Shopaholic! Super cute movie, love Isla Fisher, etc, etc. But heres my story: I am a saveaholic. Even when I can spend money, I don't. I can talk myself out of any purchase. IT. IS. A. PROBLEM.

Confession of a Saveaholic # 1: I will wear an item all day at work before I decide to buy it and 9 times out of 10, I don't.

Confession # 2: I am not only a Saveaholic but also a Maxxanista. The last time I purchased an item at TJ Maxx was before Christmas and I carried it around with me for atleast 45 minutes trying to decide if I wanted to buy it or not. It was a coffee mug. And a gift. $3.99 people, and it took me that long to commit.

# 3: At work we have the cutest Lilly Pulitzer coolers. I thought about getting one all day Friday. (And having it monogrammed, DUH!) I left work without making a decision thinking "if I really want it and it is still here next week, I'll buy it". I thought about it the whole way home and have continued thinking about it this weekend. I would be willing to bet that I convince myself that I can find another that I like almost as much that costs far less and will let all of the little pretties slip right through my fingers.

Please girls, help me to see the error of my ways. Convince me that I do need all of the pretty things I see and that saving money isn't all its cracked up to be!

Happy Blogging Friends!

Tuesday TV

Tuesdays are always my favorite days for vegging out in front of the television. Here's how it must be done: Lights out, coffee by my side, zebra Snuggie in place (don't judge), and laptop well, in my lap!

First up, Glee. I love Will Schuester, Sue Sylvester, Emma Pillsbury, Coach Beast and each and every member of the glee club. Sue's antics, sarcasm, dry sense of humor, and pure anger make for very funny Tuesday evenings. Will and Emma's love for one another always makes me smile and Coach Beast reminds me each week to "not judge a book by its cover". Rachel used to be too much for me to handle but you can't deny, the girl's got chops! Although the music doesn't have the same passion as the original songs I am always looking forward how the McKinley High Glee Club can rock it out!

Second, my girl: the New Girl, JESS! Love Jess and all the shenanigans she and her roomies get into! Her cute, quirky style is something I admire and yes, I know she is a fictional character, but her constant optimism is refreshing. Always excited for the next episode! Also, I firmly believe that Jess and Nick will fall in love! AH! Fingers crossed!

Recently Gil and I have started watching Big Bang Theory. We both LOVE Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Howard, Amy, Raj, and of course Bernadette! Sheldon makes me laugh nearly every time he speaks. Bazinga might be my new favorite catch phrase... Ever. So thankful for reruns on TBS because I don't know how we could wait an entire week to witness the awkwardness that is The Big Bang Theory. Oh, and Leonard + Penny forever!

Ah, lastly... The light of my life, the butter to my bread, the peas to my carrots: Teen Mom 2. I am (maybe too) deeply invested in these girl's stories. I am sad when Leah's sweet baby girl has to go to the doctor. I was happy to see that Leah and Corey made it but I now realize that they were just too young. Poor Chelsea has to deal with Adam and all of his selfishness but she did get the most precious girl out of it! Thankful that she has such supportive parents! So glad to see that Kailyn is being civil with Joe and hoping it will last. That would be so much better for their little boy. Oh goodness... Now Jenelle. I truly hope that she can get her life straightened out and be a mother to Jace. I always feel so sad when he has to hear Jenelle yell with her mother. That is no life for a baby. Always hoping for the best for these girls and their children.

Well, enjoy your Tuesday evening veg session readers and fill me in on any awesome shows I might be missing!

DIY Darling

So, I was getting really tired of searching through a tiny drawer in my vanity for the jewelry I wanted to wear on any given day. Finding a matching pair of studs running on half a cup of coffee in the morning is not something I look forward to or recommend.

Well, I love me a good ol' antique window and any way to repurpose it and make it useful is worth a golden star in my book. So I decided to take one that my parents have and turn it into something really special! In just a few VERY simple steps you can have a rustic, vintage, super cute jewelry organizer too!

What you will need:

  • Old window
  • Aluminum screening (the same as used for screened doors)
  • 6 (+/-) screw hooks
  • Staple gun
  • Sawtooth picture hanger

First, you want to find a window that is sturdy. If it seems to be falling apart now, you certainly don't want to hang your most prized possessions (your accessories) on it!

Remove all of the glass panes. Most should be easily pushed through without having to break the glass.

Once you have removed all of the glass, clean the window frame with a damp wash cloth until all dirt and residue is removed. If there is any loose paint use a wire brush to remove.

Next, take the screening and pull tightly across the back of the frame. Staple into place using staple gun.

The next step can be altered to your taste. I decided to use my hooks in the middle of my frame rather than the top or bottom. If you have a lot of earrings, I would suggest using your hooks on the bottom to free up as much space within the frame as possible. After you have decided where your hooks would be most useful, use a nail to begin your hole (only about 1/4 of the way into the frame). Then simply screw the hooks into the hole that you have created.

Lastly, attach your sawtooth frame hanger onto the back of the frame and hang.

Now just hang all of your jewelry and admire your handiwork! (I've been admiring mine all day... Shhh...)

* Added tip: For bangles-- find a vase, decorative bottle, or even an old glass Coke bottle and stack bangles on the neck. It's a cute look and very practical!

I will be making a few alterations to my window frame organizer, such as adding places for stud earrings and rings, and I will update you as soon as I do. Hope your craft day turns out as well as mine did!

I'm Back

So here I am, back to blogging! Decided to revamp my blog and get back into posting. I always loved writing and getting views and feedback so I know (hope) I will follow through!

With that said, readers-- please give me ideas for how to improve Just a Girl! Ways to make it cute, personalized, fun, and most of all... INTERESTING!

So far I have added a new background, title image, and a "follow me on Pinterest" button. Any other ideas/inspiration is welcomed and very much appreciated!

Happy blogging readers,
